Reese Witherspoon At Home: Inside The Actress’s Luxurious Residences
Legally Blonde is one of those films that have transcended the realm of entertainment and become pop culture references. Ask any millennial woman what the “bend and snap” is, and you’ll get a full explanation, complete with a step-by-step tutorial! As legendary as the movie is, the woman who played the protagonist, Elle Woods, is equally as iconic. That woman is Reese Witherspoon.
Reese is the epitome of a Southern Belle. She was born in Louisiana and raised in Nashville, her father is an army veteran, and one of her ancestors (allegedly) signed the Declaration of Independence. She’s practically a walking star-spangled banner!
These days, thanks to her decades-long career, Reese is a bona fide Hollywood bigshot. She was named the highest-paid actress by Forbes in 2021 and is worth a whopping $440 million. And how does Reese like to blow her cash? On property, of course. Take a look at the places she calls “home.”
Sweet Home [Tennessee]
As a Southern gal herself, it is no surprise that Reese has invested in real estate in her hometown. And why wouldn’t she? After all, she loves her home state so much that she even named one of her sons Tennessee.
Reese has owned a couple of homes in Nashville, including this stunning four-bedroom, 3.5-bath home in Oak Hill. As you will come to find out, Reese has a great eye for interior design, and this home is truly a testament to that.
World Class Reno
Given Reese’s apparent love for interior design, it is no surprise that she lived in a home that once belonged to a world-famous interior designer. Ojai Ranch was once a crumbling and derelict ghost house before it landed in the hands of Kathy Ireland.
Kathy brought the property back to life and lived there for a couple of years. Reese then bought the ranch in 2006 and made it her own. However, Kathy’s touch will forever be imprinted on the home. She turns an abandoned building into something that looks so homey.
A Home of Sweet Beginnings
The Ojai Ranch, which is located about an hour and a half outside of Los Angeles, holds many special memories for Reese and her family. In 2011 Reese and her second husband, Jim Toth (now ex-husband), tied the knot on the 7-acre plot.
In 2013, Reese sold the property for a reported $5 million, which netted her a million-dollar profit since she initially bought the property for $4 million. If there’s one thing Reese knows how to do, it’s to make lots of money.
A Different Kind Of Neighborhood
Since Reese is one of the lucky few in this world with access to millions, it only makes sense that she would want to surround herself with other people of a similar caliber. As such, she eventually moved to a neighborhood that is home to the likes of LeBron James and Tom Brady.
Brentwood, California, is nestled within the Santa Monica Mountains on the Westside of Los Angeles. Think of the quintessential Californian suburb in the movies, and that is what Brentwood is: sunny skies, palm trees, and overpriced cafes. Essentially, it is the perfect place for a Hollywood star.
No Trespassers
Even though Brentwood is celebrity nirvana, when you are a star of Reese’s caliber, you have to take extra precautions when it comes to safety. There are tons of creeps out there who can’t seem to separate a character an actor plays from the real person behind the character.
That’s why when it came to picking a place to lay her head at night, Reese chose one of the most difficult places to reach if you’re a nosy fan or a sleazy paparazzo. Her three-acre Brentwood home is burrowed away in a canyon and protected by a massive gate. Miss Witherspoon isn’t playing around!
England Countryside Meets LA
Reese is a Southern Gal, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like to spice it up when it comes to architecture. Okay, granted, a traditional English manor might not be “spicing it up,” but it is beautiful all the same.
There is so much to admire about Reese’s Brentwood home. However, the exterior of the building is probably one of our favorite parts of the entire home. The warm lighting from the sconces and the crawling ivy over the bricked facade bring such a welcoming feel to the home.
Cozy Entrances
The welcoming feel of the home doesn’t end at the front door. As soon as you open the door, you are greeted with a hefty staircase that anchors the room. The staircase leads the eye up to the second level of the home, which seems to be hiding even more beautiful architectural gems.
What we love most about this space is the rails. They truly fit with the modern English manor style of the home. We can almost imagine ourselves walking in, dusting snow off of our boots, and hanging up a winter coat! Not likely to happen in California, but you get the idea.
Heart of the Home
While we can spend hours waxing lyrical about the beauty of light fixtures and wooden beams, there is one part of the home that deserves more of our attention. That room is, of course, the heart and soul of the home: the kitchen.
We don’t have up-to-date pictures of what Reese’s home looks like since she purchased it in 2020 (we did tell you that Miss Witherspoon likes her privacy). However, these pictures of the home before she moved in give us a glimpse of where Reese (or her private chefs) whips up nourishing meals for her family.
Sneak Peaks
Before Reese purchased the home, the kitchen was decked out in classic white cabinets topped with white stone countertops. The massive cooktop and FOUR ovens make this the perfect kitchen for largescale cooking. She looks like the kind of person who enjoys entertaining, so this would be perfect for her.
Since moving in, Reese has added her own brand of personality to the space. There seem to be some black accents added in the room and a table that is a lighter shade to the dark wood that is seen throughout the house.
Closet of Dreams
If we were to walk through this house in order of which rooms are the most important, then we think the closet should come right after the kitchen. If there is a heaven, then it must look like Reese Witherspoon’s closet.
Her closet is about the size of an average living room. It might seem excessive for some, but when you have had as many iconic fashion moments as Reese has, then it stands to reason that you would need tons of space to store it all. We’re so jealous!
Keeping Things Straight
Speaking of iconic fashion moments, it’s been said that Reese organizes her closet according to movies that she has been in. For example, she has a section from her time as Elle Woods. As you can imagine, this section is fluffy, pink, sparkly, and all the good things.
During an episode of Get Organized with The Home Edit, the show’s hosts, Clea Shearer, and Joanna Teplin, were tasked with helping Reese get her closet organized. Given the same task, we would have been hard-pressed not to leave with a couple of handbags stuffed into our jeans!
Mom Moments
As much as we like to fangirl over Reese’s successes as an actress, it is also worthwhile to remember that she has a whole other life that has nothing to do with Hollywood glitz and glamour. After all, one of the roles she values most is her role as “mom.”
During the lockdown, Reese gave her fans a sneak peek into how her youngest son was making use of her sturdy kitchen countertops and beautiful oak tables. Well, a guy has got to get his circulation going somehow, right? Our spidey senses tell us this boy is gifted.
Book Worm
In addition to trying to wrangle her son off of the furniture, Reese also spent some of her lockdown period reading. Turns out, reading is one of Reese’s favorite past times. So much so that she has an Instagram book club.
She had no problem finding a nook to read in in this 10000-square-foot home. Her English Manor is the perfect place to cuddle up with a good book, a great Bordeaux, and endless stretches of time to read. That’s our definition of bliss!
Mother of Libraries
Speaking of fantastic reading nooks, Reese happens to have the mother of all libraries. The dark hardwood paneling grounds the space and gives it a cozy salon feel, while the white alcove ceiling retains the room’s levity. It’s massive but so cozy.
The plush chairs and fancy furnishings give the room such a regal feel that it feels almost blasphemous to store any books that aren’t classics here. This room definitely gives off more Bronte Sisters vibes than Colleen Hoover vibes (P.S.: Colleen, we love you!).
Old Meet New
The dark wood seen in Reese’s library actually shows up more than once in different parts of the home. It seems that the architect wanted to retain some of the traditional features of an English manor while still ensuring the home still looked modern and fresh.
As a result, the house boasts stark white walls and high ceilings that allow the light to flood in. The juxtaposition of old and antique with new and fresh is expertly done in this home. Rather than feeling forced, the meshing of the two styles makes the home feel…well, homey.
For Distinguished Guests
The dining room is yet another space where we see the hefty dark wood coexisting with stark white walls. The chunky wooden panels on the ceiling apex in the center where an antique chandelier jewels the room. Check this out.
We can envisage Reese entertaining all of her big-shot friends in this room. She and her guests might speak about investing in AI (or whatever rich people talk about) while making their way through the beautiful French doors and into the lush garden beyond. How splendid, eh?
For the Love of the French-ies
A couple of rooms in Reese’s home feature French doors. And why not? After all, who doesn’t love a classic French door? But do you know what people love more than French doors? French Bulldogs. Their little faces with their almost-too-big eyes are so stinking cute!
Reese, as a woman of fine taste, also seems to love these adorable dogs. She has a French Bulldog named Minnie Pearl, who is just as precious as her namesake. Miss Minnie Pearl loves to curl up on her mommy’s lap while she reads the day away.
Pretty Pup
Reese is a dog lover so it stands to reason that she cannot have just one dog. Oh, no. Reese actually has a whole gang of adorable pups. Seems only right when you have more than enough space for them to run around in, right?
In addition to Minnie Pearl, the Witherspoon family has a Border Collie rescue named Benji. They also have a handsome black Labrador named Major, whose big brother is a chocolate Labrador named Hank. And, of course, who can forget Lou, the family’s blue-eyed Bulldog?
A Palace for the Pups
As mentioned, Reese’s pampered pups have more than enough space to play and explore. The manicured lawns are dotted with mature trees that hug the property. The grounds seem enclosed despite their enormous size. Looks like the perfect outdoor oasis.
The property also has a crystal-clear pool so Reese can practice those morning laps. It is a salt pool, of course. Everyone knows that blonde hair cannot stand chlorine for too long, and Miss Witherspoon must protect those money-making golden locks!
Shower Like Royalty
Once she is done with her morning swim, Reese can head to her gargantuan bathroom to wash off her workout. Of course, this is what we think her morning routine looks like. She must be just like us and wake up hurried and late for work.
Her bathroom is a fantastic place for resetting and getting ready for the day, and the jacuzzi tub is perfect for soaking in sore muscles. Once out of the tub, you can doll yourself up in front of the makeup vanity that sits at the end of the room.
Post-Reno Sneak Peaks
As we’ve mentioned before, some of these pictures are from before Reese moved in and put her own special touch on things. In all likelihood, she has made some changes to this room to make it fit her lifestyle and personal taste a little bit better.
In this picture that Reese posted to her social media, we are treated to a small glimpse of what the bathroom might look like now. It seems as though she has added some subway tiles, dark wood, and gold accents to cut through all that white. Smart choice!
Sanctum
As much as we can appreciate that Reese probably wanted to add her own special touches to the home, we also think that this bedroom is perfect just the way it is. It looks like the dream hideaway for busy parents with demanding jobs.
The fireplace must be so soothing on the odd days that California is cold enough to require indoor heat. There is also something about the vaulted ceilings that makes this room look extra special. We are sure that, though they are no longer together, Reese and Jim made the most of this oasis.
Baby Bookworm
As for the kids, they seem to have been given their own little hideaways to enjoy as well. Take this room, for example. Being the book lover that she is, it is no surprise that Reese has infected her son with the reading bug.
The boy has his own adorable reading nook that is decked out in a nautical theme. Baby Witherspoon can now read about far-off lands while nestled in his own reading cave. Don’t mind us; we’ll just be in the corner crying with envy!
Family Time
When Jim and Reese weren’t spending time hidden away in their stunning room, they might have been in the living room spending time with their kids. The living room has the same wooden accents as some of the other rooms in the house, except here, the wood is black. A nice touch.
The room is also quite sizeable. So much so that in this picture, it has been styled to feature a couple of living spaces rather than one central space. While this may not be our personal style, we can appreciate how well it has been executed here.
Working Gal
As sad as it may be, life is not all about reading, swimming in a salt pool, and lounging on plush couches. Reese had to build her insane net worth somehow. To do this, she had to put in some good, old-fashioned hard work.
True as that may be, work is certainly a little bit more fun when it is being done in Reese’s incredible home study. Reese has made sure to surround her workspace with all the things that she loves: family (the picture frame in the back), books, and flowers.
Colors of ‘Merica
Something else that Reese loves that can be seen throughout her home is the colors red, blue, and white. She always finds ways to incorporate her favorite colors in ways that don’t seem like 4th of July tack.
Take this family picture, for example. The family’s jumpsuits look almost navy blue/dark green but Reese has added a pop of brightness with a bold red lip. Can we also mention how stunning she looks in this picture? She looks almost as young as her daughter!
Family Ties
If you guessed that Reese’s love for red, blue, and white came from an obsession with the American flag, then you would be wrong (though, who knows? Maybe she is a true patriot). Her love for these colors is a bit more personal.
Apparently, Reese’s grandmother had some blue and white china, and that inspired Reese’s decorative choices. If you can get past Minnie Pearl’s adorable face, you’ll notice the subtle ways that Reese has incorporated her favorite colors through the use of fabrics.
Patterns and Textures
Here are some more examples of the way that Reese adds her favorite colors to her decor without overwhelming the space. In addition to her expert use of complementary hues, Reese also uses patterns to add interest to a space.
In an adorable picture of Reese lounging with her beloved son, you can see how she has played with texture to add dimension to her décor. The lounge furniture is lighter-colored wood and covered in a breathy linen. This makes the space feel summery and fresh.
Feminine Touches
We’ve seen Reese’s love for light wood with her choice of kitchen furniture. In addition to that, you can also see the way she has used it to brighten up this room. Though her study furniture is a light oak, it’s just as stately as the dark wood in her library.
Reese has also added some decorative wallpaper (Reese adores tasteful wallpaper) to give the room some interest. The result is a light, airy room that has all the markings of a room fit for a Southern Belle. We absolutely love it!
Quirky Cousins
Okay, at this point, we can all collectively agree that we are storming her Brentwood home and moving in, right? Well, hold your horses because Reese is not a woman who limits her property portfolio to just one stunning home.
Once part of Reese’s property empire is this 1950s-style ranch home in Malibu. The furnishings alone tell us that this is the quirky cousin to her more traditional Brentwood home. Despite the quirks, we love this house just as much as the last.
Arty Spaces
The Malibu ranch, which has been affectionately dubbed the “Zuma Ranch” for reasons unknown, seems like the perfect fit for an artist. It even has its very own art studio and screening room. Does it get more Hollywood than that?
In contrast to the high ceilings and dark wood that her Brentwood home boasts, the Zuma Ranch has low ceilings and lighter wood finishes. Despite that, the house is bathed in light and feels quite airy. This is probably thanks to the expansive windows.
A Palace in the Palisades
In 2014, Reese purchased a home in the Pacific Palisades in California. The Pacific Palisades are known for being just as exclusive as Brentwood. The neighborhood is peppered with multimillion-dollar homes, and this home fits right in with that crowd.
She bought her palace…er…home for $12.7 million. Sounds like a steal for a home that is 10000 square feet, right? A downright bargain if you ask us. Well, we know our girl Reese is not one to lose money, so she sold the home in 2020 for $17 million. Not a bad return.
Girly Touches
The décor in Reese’s Pacific Palisades home holds true to the aesthetic in her Brentwood home. In this one, we see more of the soft, feminine colors and textures that Reese seems to gravitate towards. And, of course, she couldn’t stay away from the blue.
As a mother, producer, actress, and businesswoman (phew, we are tired from just typing that), we can imagine that she needs a restful space to come home to. Perhaps that is why she loves muted tones and plush cushions. Also, it just looks pretty.
Call Dominos
Reese’s kitchen in the Pacific Palisades is nothing short of gorgeous. It features some of the traditional features that she seems to enjoy: the white countertops and classic white cabinetry bejeweled by the gold handles and finishes. As with the Brentwood home, the traditional is countered with the modern in this home as well.
It seems almost comical to refer to subway tiles as modern, but they’ve really had their comeback moment and are now all the rage. As stunning as this kitchen is, though, we don’t know how much cooking goes on in here. Reese seems to be enjoying that pizza way too much.
A Great Eye
Reese’s implacable taste extends further than just her great eye for interior design. In 2015 she started her own clothing line called Draper James. The line embodies everything Reese holds dear. For one, it is named after two of her grandparents.
In addition to the name of the brand being a sweet homage to her grandparents, the clothes themselves showcase that Southern Chic style that Reese seems to adore. She opened her very first store in Nashville, and now Draper James is slowly taking over the South.
Old Meets New
When deciding on the decor of her stores, Reese wanted to stay true to her personal aesthetic. So, with this in mind, she decorated the stores in a way that emulates classic Southern charm. She told Architectural Digest about her clever use of wallpaper and moldings to bring that southern flair to life.
However, as much as she wanted to honor the classic Southern decor, Reese also wanted to add a modern touch to the space. She achieved this by throwing in contemporary light fixtures and adding some punchy artwork on the walls. The result was an eye-catching store that we wouldn’t mind spending too many dollars in!
Separate Ways
So, now that Reese has sadly filed for divorce from her husband, Jim Toth, one wonders what is next for the gorgeous blond. Well, it seems that she and Jim had been preparing for the divorce for much longer than the public initially thought.
The couple liquidated some of their properties, including the Brentwood home, which made dividing the estate much easier. Reese also sold her production company, Hello Sunshine, which she co-owned with her now ex-husband. We can imagine that this must have been a difficult process for her.
Plan for Everything
Their preplanning worked out for them because just four months after they filed for divorce, the couple had finalized their settlement and officially ended things. That is remarkably quick, considering how drawn out these proceedings can get, especially for famous, high-net individuals.
The couple signed a non-disclosure agreement as part of their settlement. However, we do know a couple of details about what was decided. Apparently, neither party would receive alimony or child support, and their assets were split evenly. Seems pretty fair to us.
Back to Bachelor Life
While this article is all about the amazing Reese Witherspoon, we are a little bit curious to find out how her ex, Jim, is doing now that he is no longer married to America’s sweetheart. He did live in this bachelor pad before he met Reese, so is he back there now?
Well, it turns out that Jim has already found love again! According to some very nosy sources, he was spotted on a romantic getaway with a lovely lady. Ooh, scandalous! As for the bachelor pad pictured here, Jim sold it in 2015.
Next Chapter
As awful as divorce is, don’t feel too sad for this bombshell. It seems that Reese is not one to let anything get her down. She bounced back from her previous divorce, and there is no reason why she wouldn’t bounce back from this one.
Her professional life also seems to be thriving. She recently starred in (and produced) a show called Little Fires Everywhere. And, in news that had us squealing, she is also reportedly working on Legally Blonde 3. We have our pink furs ready for the premiere!
