Computer-generated images or CGI and other software such as Photoshop and Lightroom are valuable when it comes to pictures, television shows, and movies. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to suspend our disbelief when we are in front of the screen. Visuals play a vital role to play. They have to transport viewers to other worlds, and they have to be incredible to be talked about. However, what we have here for you are not manipulated pictures or the product of hours of work behind a computer. Although they may look otherworldly, these pictures were inadvertently given its special effects by the light, the surroundings, and a few serendipitous circumstances. They look so surreal that they seem straight out of a movie set.
#1 A picture that can be found on postcards
A Scandinavian country that encompasses deep fjords, mountains, and glaciers, Norway is one of the most picturesque places in the entire world. If you are ever in Europe, Norway is a destination that should be included in your itinerary.
Don’t believe us? Just look at the picture, and you’ll be convinced of its stunning beauty. Yup, that’s a real picture. It didn’t come from a movie set or some designer’s mind. This is all real. You should really book a ticket to Norway once the borders are open.
#2 Watch out for the monsters
What comes into your mind first when you look at this photo? We think that a monstrous creature will be crossing the road anytime or will be jumping on the car and scaring the drivers and passengers to death.
We’d be scared if we are in the car and would tell the driver to turn around and just go back. We wouldn’t risk life and limb driving through this haunted forest that looks like a movie set from Stephen King’s or James Wan’s latest horror offering.
#3 The French Disney
Disney is one of the most recognizable companies in the world today. Established by Walt Disney and his brother Roy in 1923, the company has since expanded and currently has diverse offerings such as Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Lines, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, and many more.
The Disney logo has also become one of the most recognizable logos in the world. Doesn’t the photo of Mont-Saint-Michel above look like the real-life version of the Disney logo? This enchanting place in France is one of the most beautiful in the world.
#4 Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair to me!
You must have surely heard or read various fairy tales when you were younger. One of the most popular fairy tale characters is Rapunzel and her very long hair. Imprisoned in a tower with neither door nor stairway, the only other human she has seen is the witch until she met the prince.
This tower in the middle of an Irish forest looks like the tower where Rapunzel would be imprisoned in. We can envision her at the very top of the tower looking out and seeing the world while standing by her window, lonely and sad.
#5 This can be in a videogame
Sometimes we get breathtaking pictures that look so surreal that people believe it’s not our work or it’s not a real photo. Are you sure that’s real? That must have been produced by photo manipulation and effects. Sometimes, these people are proven wrong.
This is a photo of Half Dome in California. Located in Yosemite National Park in California, this is a spot well-loved by photographers and those who love being with nature. If this doesn’t convince you to go there, we don’t know what will.
#6 The white walkers are coming
If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, then you must have been on the edge of your seat when the White Walkers were attacking Winterfell. You wanted the children to be safe, and you also cheered on the men to be brave but not foolish.
Surely you cheered when they were expelled and finally beaten. This place in Yakutsk, Russia, called the Lena Pillars looks like it belongs to the set of the Game of Thrones. We’re expecting white walkers to climb over the wall and start wreaking havoc.
#7 They have flying cars now?
With all the improvements in technology, it won’t be too long now before we see cars flying. The Jetsons are soon going to become everyone’s reality. What are roads going to look like then? How is air traffic going to be?
This car that seems to be hovering gives everyone a glimpse of what we can expect in the future. The only thing is it’s not actually hovering, but the way this picture was taken making it seem so. The more pressing question, though, is how the driver is going to get the car back out of the spot.
#8 Where’s Courage?
One of the most-loved cartoon series in Cartoon Network a few years ago was Courage the Cowardly Dog. We’re not gonna deny that we loved the show too, and we watched every episode. Okay, we’ve overshared, and now you know how old we are.
But let’s not talk about that. We’re here to talk about this photo that looks like it the real place where Courage, Eustace, and Muriel lived. It’s in the middle of nowhere, there are no neighbors, and the place looks very scary and ominous with the cloudy background.
#9 Skyrim in the Czech Republic
The Czech Republic is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful countries not only in Europe but in the world. It has amazing architecture and a long history. It is a crossroads of many cultures and is home to many of the world’s most iconic works.
It also happens to be the Earth’s real Skyrim. Don’t believe us? Just take a look at the photo above. This place is called the Emperor’s Corridor in the country’s Prachov Rocks. It was formed 60 million years ago and has been the filming location of various movies, including Van Helsing and Hellboy.
#10 We would love to live in this house
Any girl growing up watched plenty of fairy tales and certainly has dreamed of meeting her prince, wearing glass slippers and beautiful gowns, and living in a castle. If you can’t live in a castle, the next best thing is to live in a house that looks straight out of a fairytale.
This house in Beverly Hills fits the bill. It looks like it came out of a fable. We’d surely love to live in that house even for a day. This is called Spadena House, also locally known as the Witch’s House. Rumor has it that Halloween in that side of town was an event.
#11 Enchanted forest
The forest has always been a mysterious place. It’s where the wolf lives and where it set a plan in motion to eat Red Riding Hood. It is the realm of faeries and other magical creatures. It is also where you can discover plenty of nature’s delights.
This forest in Basque Country in Spain looks vibrant and enchanted. The trees are covered in thick green moss while the ground is blanketed with colorful, fiery red autumn leaves. You don’t get to see sights like this all the time.
#12 This belongs in a video game
It’s pictures like this that make our feet itch and gives us the yearn to travel. We can’t wait to explore the world again once the situation improves. We’re quite sure plenty of airports all over the world also can’t wait to welcome guests.
This photo may look like it belongs in a horror video game, but this is a picture of a real place in Poland. It’s the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland. The place features an exhibit on the history of salt mining, an underground lake, and a chapel, which is featured in this photo.
#13 the earth pyramids
Earth is not short of outstanding and amazing landscapes that can rival any set designer’s greatest work. Forget all the editing and the special effects; Mother Nature can do a lot better than all of them. This otherworldly sight is all-natural.
This place is dubbed the “Earth Pyramids” and is located in South Tyrol in Northern Italy. Does it remind you of anything? It indeed reminds us of the landscape of the Alien movie set. This can also be described as a hoodoo or thin spires of rocks that usually form on arid land.
#14 Apocalyptic San Francisco
This is an image of San Francisco which nobody wants to see. It’s ominous and downright frightening. It looks like the end of the world as if civilization has completely perished. Frankly, this is something we would rather see on movie screens than in real life.
According to sources, this happened during the horrendous and historic 2020 California fires. The skies were red, and the smoke was so thick that the sun appeared bright red. That’s a truly horrifying sight that no one wants to see.
#15 Futuristic majestic
Now, this looks straight out of Star Trek. The American science fiction series is one of the most successful shows and has spanned many generations. Back in the 60s, when it first came out, everyone marveled at just how futuristic it was for that time.
The photo above looks like the interiors of a spaceship. Sleek, clean, and a good place for space people to stay, don’t you think? In actual fact, this is the interior of an empty 787. It looks quite spacious without the seats and other things.
#16 The aliens are coming
There’s has never been a shortage of UFO conspiracies. Since the supposed “crash” in Roswell 60 years ago, everyone has got something to say about aliens and how they have been controlling our world behind the scenes and abducting people.
This image looks like it belongs to the alien archives. Nothing frightening here, though. Conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this one. It’s just a picture of a stadium, but it looks like a UFO because it’s covered in fog.

Undoubtedly one of the most recognizable computer games today is GTA or Grand Theft Auto. Launched in September 2013, the game has sold millions and has countless fans all over the world. Its popularity is partly because it allows players to drive countless numbers of vehicles around America’s cities.
Who doesn’t like driving cars? Even if it’s only in a game. If you can’t drive your favorite cars in real life, you might as well do in a game, right? This photo looks like it belongs in the video game. The image looks like it’s somehow been manipulated.
#18 More GTA
Speaking of GTA, this is another video that looks like it belongs in a game. Look at that color and the lines of that car. Unreal right? We think any girl would love to drive that car. Barbie would be proud to drive that hot pink card around Hollywood.
Experts on the Internet are pointing out that the car is a 2013 Maserati Granturismo sports car. Now that’s one sweet ride. It better be a good drive because it has a base price of $125,000 and that’s not exactly cheap.
#19 Unlock the character
Don’t you just hate it when people take pictures of you, and you end up resembling a potato? But when you take pictures of other people, they look like models, and the photo looks like it’s been taken by a professional?
This picture is a good example of that. Look at the third guy; he doesn’t look like a potato; he looks worse than a potato. He looks like a non-person. Doesn’t he remind you of a locked character in a computer game?
#20 Is this from The Walking Dead?
Ah, The Walking Dead! Just like most fans, we used to love the show, especially its earlier seasons. It kept us on the edge of our seats. Zombies everywhere, humans trying to survive while trying to live as normal a life as they possibly could.
This picture right here looks like one of the most recognizable characters in the TV series, Carl! Carl and his signature cowboy hat. This is just a photo of a neighborhood kid taken when a giant storm was passing by at nighttime. But it could really pass for Carl.
#21 Stay away from the portal
A lot of people believe that there are portals on earth that lead to other dimensions or to a parallel universe. Although this hasn’t been proven true, there’s no shortage of theories out there. Just search on the Internet, and you’ll see what we mean.
This picture seems to prove the point of those theories, but it also looks like a scene from a sci-fi movie. When you look at it, you might expect spaceships to appear suddenly. However, it’s a harmless picture. It’s the reflection of the room’s lights in the window behind the person taking the photo that’s giving it that portal look.
#22 There’s someone behind you!
This is a picture of two children enjoying a day in the zoo. However, the image of the guy behind them is making us worry for them. Is he out to abduct the girls? Is he a killer? Does he have any evil designs?
Funny how an innocent picture can be made really scary by something in the background. The person behind the girls is the one taking the photo. He’s probably the children’s dad but his reflection on the glass is making him look creepy.
#23 Fire!
This picture looks like a scene from one of the many firefighting movies such as Only the Brave, Ladder 49, and The Tower. Fires are scary because they can spread easily because of weather and environmental conditions. It’s something that we wouldn’t wish on our worst enemies.
As much as we would like this to be a movie scene, this is a real picture of a fire in East St. Louis. We just wish that people got out safely and that no lives were lost. Never mind, the property damage, lives matter more.
#24 Spine-tingling
Horror movies are among the most-watched. Why do we love horror movies? Why do we relish scaring ourselves half to death? Is it because of the adrenaline rush that horror movies give? Or is it because when we watch horror movies, we can suspend our disbelief for a time?
We can’t really pinpoint the reason, but we know that this picture belongs in a horror movie because it gives us the creeps. The fog, the moon, the shadow, and the light give it a frightening quality, as if something bad is about to happen.
#25 The apocalypse is coming
What emotions do you feel when you see this photo? What does it make you think of? It makes us think of the end of the world, of a catastrophe that makes survival very difficult for man. Suffice it to say that this photo doesn’t make us feel happy.
Pictures can be very powerful, and just like what the saying says, they can paint a thousand words. This is a photo of the aftermath of an ice storm in north Georgia although it seems to be way more serious than that.
#26 Alien invasion
This is another photo that makes it seem as if aliens are here for an invasion. Be careful; they might just abduct you and do some weird experiments with your body. They might inject you with something that will turn you into a zombie.
This photo can easily be included in Independence Day, The War of the Worlds, and Mars Attacks, and people wouldn’t know any better. However, this is only a photo of a building in San Antonio at nighttime. Cool, right?
#27 The mind flayer is coming
Stranger Things is one of the most popular shows on the streaming service, Netflix. Now on its third season with a confirmed fourth season on the way, it continues to enjoy great viewership. We can’t wait to see what will happen in the next installment for the fearsome bunch.
This picture looks like it’s a scene from the television show. The red skies, the shadows, we’re expecting the mind flayer to show up anytime now. You don’t need to be worried, though as this is just a view from someone’s porch. No monsters here.
#28 I’m not going near that Christmas tree
Christmas is a time of merriment and a time of gift-giving. It’s the season of opening boxes full of goodies from family and friends. However, it can be a scary time, too, especially if you’ve been a naughty child. Think Krampus!
This photo belongs to the scary Christmas movie category. It’s weird seeing a Christmas tree outfitted with lights in the middle of the woods. We’re quite sure that this scary Christmas movie comes with an evil witch waiting to eat stray children who are attracted by her Christmas tree.
#29 Chaos!
It’s scary to imagine a world in chaos, where people are barely surviving, there’s not enough food, and there’s just general dystopia. Nobody wants to live in such a world. We all want order and peace. This picture seems like it belongs in dystopian movies.
Think Mad Max, 1984, and Babylon A.D. However, this isn’t a still from a movie. This is a picture taken when protests in Hong Kong were at their peak in the summer of 2018. This was when police cracked down on protesters and arrested a few people.
#30 Another scene from a horror movie
What are the signs that you’re in a horror movie? You enter a small town, and everyone looks at you. It feels and looks as if it’s always nighttime. Does the sun ever come up? You get a huge property for a meager price. Why is that?
Another sign is the sky looks like the picture above as if something is gonna appear and start chasing and devouring people. The good news is that this is only a photo taken during a storm that made the cloud look scary.
#31 This is a hotel we’d like to visit someday
Traveling lets you meet new people, experience new cultures, taste new cuisines, and of course, gives you the chance to stay in the most beautiful hotels. It can be such a great experience to discover quaint and unique hotels all over the world.
This particular hotel has corridors that look like a retro Fps game. For those of you not in the know, Fps means first-person shooter; it’s centered on weapons and combat. Be on the alert now because someone might be just around the corner.

One of the most popular types of games today is the quest game. It’s a game whereby players are given a task to complete in order to get a reward. Some of the most common rewards are loot, items in the game, or access to a new level or location.
This photo right here belongs in a quest game. Just look at that sign right there. It’s telling you that you’re about to go on a journey of discovery and adventure. This game is going to be an eventful one, so make sure you’re ready for it.
#33 This belongs in a horror movie
Haunted children and haunted houses are some of the most common horror movie themes. Think Poltergeist, The Others, Stir of Echoes, A Tale of Two Sisters, Crimson Peak, Insidious, The Shining, and The Entity. This photo right here can be the poster of a new horror movie.
There could be a monster lurking in the dark ready to take the child with it. Or evil could be within or be the child itself. Think of Orphan and The Omen. Who do you think would be the best director for the movie? James Wan? M. Night Shyamalan?
#34 Another scene in a horror movie
There seem to be a plethora of pictures on this list that could belong to a horror movie. This is one that we can add to that ever-growing list. This is a picture taken of a cemetery fire, but this looks like an ending to a horror movie.
You know that scene in a movie when evil is finally driven out of a house or a child, and then the evil house burns down to convince the viewers that there’s nothing left? This is that scene right there. This could also be a good spot to film a death metal song.
#35 Amazing landscape
These must be really good mountains, or they must be really nice humans in their past life because they have halos. For anyone who’s dreaming of shooting a sci-fi movie, they should include this shot in the film. It deserves to be seen by everyone.
There’s really nothing cosmic or sci-fi based about how this photo was taken. The long exposure of the photo made the drones circling the mountains look like halos. Camera settings can really make a lot of difference. Time to start experimenting.
#36 Kon’nichawa Japan
The whole country of Japan looks like it belongs in a postcard. Japan has a long history, a rich culture, some of the the most honest people in the world, and fantastic picturesque landscapes. People who’ve been there either want to stay there or visit again.
This picture looks like it belongs to a movie set in Japan such as The Last Samurai or Memoirs of a Geisha. As gorgeous as this photo looks, this doesn’t do the country any justice. You’ll understand what we mean once you see Japan with your own eyes.
#37 Ghost Ship
We know that not many people found the movie Ghost Ship to be entertaining. Popular movie critic Robert Egbert said it recycled all haunted house materials, and it got a 16% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but we still love it.
This picture looks like it could be easily be used in the movie. The fog surrounding it gives it an atmosphere of mystery and horror. However, this is just a shot of The Sutro Tower in San Francisco on a, particularly foggy day.
#38 Rainbow-paved road
We’re looking forward to the end of this rainbow-paved road because we want to get our hands on the pot of gold. We could surely use it but were afraid of the leprechaun guarding that pot of gold. He’s got plenty of tricks up his sleeve.
This is just freshly-paved tarmac with the sun hitting it just right. Seen right through polarized lenses, it looks magical, and it looks like it belongs to a movie scene. It would be cool to see this in person because this doesn’t happen often.
#39 A new monster movie
Hollywood has produced its fair share of villainous monster movies in its time. Some of the most recognizable monsters include King Kong and Godzilla, and they’ve even both starred in the same film together. There’s also Frankenstein, the Blob, and Dracula.
This is a shot of a new monster movie in the making, and we can call this character Ashgroot. Not very original, but we can’t think of anything else right now. If you have other ideas for a name, let us know. Seriously though, this picture was taken in Chile when a volcano was erupting. It could pass for a movie scene, though.
#40 The aliens are here
Seattle is known for its lush forestry, and this made people call it the Emerald City. It is also known by other names such as “The Coffee Capital of the World” and “Rain City.” Some of the state’s most recognizable landmarks are the Amazon Spheres, T-Mobile Park, and of course, the Space Needle.
Do you recognize that thing in the picture? Yup, it’s the Space Needle seen covered by the clouds from an airplane. It could easily pass for The Cloud City in Star Wars, don’t you think? Changing your perspective really does change things.
#41 Let’s start the quest
Video games are entertaining, and that’s why people love spending time playing in front of their computer screens. Some say video games have other benefits, too, such as help you make new social connections, pique your interest in history, and improve your decision-making and motor skills.
Speaking of video games, this picture right here looks like it belongs in one. The lights on the ground make it look like you’re about to begin a video game quest. Neat, right? It’s so cool too that there are people “characters” in the background.
#42 Take the pickup item
While we’re on the topic of video games, here’s another photo that looks like it belongs in one. If nobody pointed out that this was a photo, we’d think that it’s a screenshot from a game. Wouldn’t you do so too?
Under a blue light, this guy’s entire room looks surreal. The blue light also made his orange toolbox glow in the dark and look like it’s something that you should take when you’re playing a video game. There might be things inside that are helpful in your quest.
#43 The Windy City in the dead of winter
Chicago isn’t nicknamed The White City for no reason. It looks very different during winter. Don’t believe us? Just look at the photo below. Gray, unwelcoming, cold, and distant. Those are just some of the adjectives we can think of.
The city looks like a desolate place and looks like it belongs in the Game of Thrones. We wouldn’t be surprised if White Walkers started appearing from out of nowhere. Where’s Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons when you need them?
#44 There’s a glitch
Have you ever seen a dead pixel on a monitor? Sometimes they’re so small you hardly notice them, but if they’re numerous, it will certainly make using your monitor a little annoying. Fortunately, there are many ways to fix a dead pixel.
We’re just not sure if those methods can be applied to the photo above. The squarish space in the clouds seems like a dead pixel. It’s such a distraction from the pristine clouds. Any recommendations on what to do?
#45 That’s not a 3D render?
3D rendering is commonly used in interior design and architecture. It lets you see visualize how something will look before it even becomes a reality. This helps avoid costly mistakes because you don’t build something blindly, and you don’t leave things to chance.
